Penni requires an iPhone running iOS 16.6 or later. No internet connection required. iPad support is planned for a future version.
Frequently asked questions
Does Penni sync between my iPhone and other devices?
No. Penni is intentionally local-only — your data lives on a single iPhone and never leaves it. We may add optional iCloud sync in a future version, but only as a strict user-controlled opt-in. Privacy first.
What happens if I lose my iPhone or uninstall Penni?
Your expense data is gone. We strongly recommend exporting to CSV regularly (Settings → Export to CSV) and keeping a backup somewhere safe — your email, Files app, iCloud Drive, etc. Penni's data is also included in your standard iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or encrypted Mac/Finder backups) if you have those enabled in iOS Settings.
How do I add an expense quickly?
Long-press the Penni icon on your Home Screen. You'll see your two most-used templates plus an "Add expense" shortcut. Tap a template to record that expense instantly — no need to open the app.
Why doesn't Penni convert between currencies?
Currency rates change constantly and depend on where you exchange. Converted totals would either be inaccurate or require live network requests — which conflicts with Penni's offline-first design. Instead, Penni tracks each currency separately so you always see real numbers.
Can I add custom categories?
Yes. Go to Settings → Categories → +. You can choose a name, icon and color for each custom category. Default categories cannot be edited or deleted, but you can ignore them entirely and use only your own.
How do I delete all my data?
Open Settings → Reset all data and confirm. This permanently removes all expenses, budgets, templates and custom categories. The action cannot be undone. Alternatively, deleting the app from iOS removes all data automatically.
Is Penni free? Will there be a paid version?
Yes, Penni is free with no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. There are no current plans for a paid version. If that ever changes, existing features will remain free.

Please email vyahello@gmail.com with: (1) what you did, (2) what you expected, (3) what happened instead, and (4) your iOS version and device model. Screenshots help a lot. Bug reports get a same-day acknowledgment whenever possible.
